Finally the day arrives when you have spent your last day at the office or on the job. You are officially retired, and you have been looking forward to this for a long time. For the first week or two the novelty of all this free time is at its peak. Its not long however before you find that the waistline on your pants is getting a bit snug and you feel just a mite heavier. These are warning signs that you want to pay attention to real quick.
Its most important especially if you have been an active person before retirement that you pay attention to both your diet and exercise. Hopefully now with lots more free time you will be joining in with some great activities with the grandkids, but weekend activity is not enough.
Start planning your healthy regime now before you fall into the pattern of becoming too laid back. Trying to lose weight in the senior years can be a real problem. Its not something you will have to deal with though if you nip it in the bud early enough.
You may be past the stage for vigorous sports if this hasn't been part of your lifestyle in the past. It doesn't mean though that you can't take part in bowling, swimming or even fishing though to help with some weight maintenance.

Make Your Garden Pond a Grandchildren Project
It can be difficult trying to find ways to entertain the grandchildren when they pop over for a visit. Most of them want to be on the go and outdoors every opportunity they can get. It can be expensive taking them out to events but there is a perfect solution.
By having a pond garden in your backyard and especially if it is stocked with fish you can spend many hours of enjoyment with the kids by getting them to help you with the maintenance. If you know the kids are coming then save up some of the pond chores for when they get there. They will love to help you skim the pond and perhaps do a little of the aquatic plant maintenance and rearrange some of the décor.
You can even plan a trip to your pond supplier or shop online with the kids for some new pond items or plants. By doing this they will have a vested interest in the garden pond and will take great pride in it. Don't be surprised if they want more visits to grandpa and grandma's house!
Also if possible try to keep some KOI fish stocked in the pond as well. These fish will put on quite a show for the kids and they will actually come right up to the kids when its feeding time.

How Important Are Grandparents?
Grandparents are a wonderful and very unique group of individuals. It is a sad situation when grandchildren do not get the opportunity to be part of their grandparent's lives. For some their grandparents passed on before they had a chance to know them. For others a breakup in the family has split them from the joy of associating with them.
It is the job of every parent to ensure that their children's life is enriched with the love and attention of their grandparents if possible. If the grandparents have passed on then finding a senior member of the family or friend who can take on the role is of a great benefit.
Children learn so much from their grandparents. Of course there is all the old stories the seniors love to share, and there is no greater audience for them then the young ones. In addition to this, there is that special attention that they receive from their grandma and grandpa that they absorb like a sponge. For parents that live a busy lifestyle this setting is a blessing.
The grandparents derive just as much joy from the relationship as the kids do. This is the one time in life where they do not have to take on the parental responsibilities of finances and discipline and planning for the future. It is one of the most significant enjoyments in life that a senior can have.
